Speed up WordPress site is actually easier than most people think. Yet, it is very important to speed your site, because not only will it enhance visitors experience, but it also increases your SEO ranking. Following are top 10 ways that you can speed up your sites.

1. Install a cache plugin

Currently, there are only three plugins that can do the job. They are

W3 Total Cache

WP Super Cache

Quick Cache

you can basically install anyone of them. W3 Total Cache and WP Super Cache, sometimes, can cause problem if your host do not allow third parties to mess with their server, but most hosts do allow them. After you install the plugin, you simply go to the plugin setting page, activate it, and you are done. Of course, there are few advance setting, but for starter, you should be good to go.

2. Optimize Images

If you have many images on your site, it can dramatically decrease the loading speed. To speed up, you can decrease amount of pictures that are being show on your page, or you can install a plugin called “WP Smush.it”, which can optimize images, and make them load faster. Always use JPG images instead of PNG images.

3.  Minify CSS and JS Files

If you have w3 total cache, then you don’t need to install the plugin WP minify. Basically, what this plugin is limiting the number of http request. Of course, this plugin can cause few conflict with other plugin.

4.  GZip Compression

Another cool thing about .htaccess is that you can actually input codes and tell it to deflate most type of files to speed up your site, and without causing problems. Following are codes that you put into .htaccess file.
